The New Zealand military is deployed in 18 locations around the world, of which at least three are active combat situations. Yet there is little understanding of these missions and even less opposition. Unfortunately, up to this point the anti-war movement has focused largely on the actions of the United States with little attention given to the New Zealand military and their role in the ‘war on terror.’
But this must change. Challenging and resisting New Zealand's war activities is long overdue. This campaign aims to shed light on the current military activities of the New Zealand State, in particular its overseas military operations and its active support of the ‘war on terror’ here.
This a grassroots campaign. We intend to oppose New Zealand military activities and operations both through countering the well crafted PR of the armed forces with the stark reality and employing direct action to stop it ourselves.
This campaign is focused around three key demands:
- No New Zealand troop deployments
- No participation in joint training or military exercises with any other military, including the United Nations
- No support for foreign military, including the ‘war on terror’
The New Zealand military is deployed across 18 missions around the world, of which its role in the war in Afghanistan and the occupations of the Solomon Islands and Timor Leste require the most urgent withdrawal.
NZ TROOPS OUT NOW! is a broad coalition of individuals and organisations working together to achieve common anti-militaristic goals. The campaign welcomes the participation of all people interested in achieving these same goals.
We require different skills and knowledge, including research, design, public speaking, publicity and advertising, photocopying, action planning and participation. We also need funding for campaign materials, printing and legal expenses.
