Voices from Afghanistan

The people of Afghanistan say that the United Nations mission is validating the warlords who destroyed the country from 1992-1996. Meanwhile, they condemn the continued civilian murders by the coalition military forces:

"Recently the United Nations envoy in Afghanistan, Mr. Tom Koenigs announced: "If there is to be a chance for peace, we must talk to everyone, including alleged war criminals." He said this included the Taliban, which he described as "a movement that includes terrorists and uses terrorist methods but that also has a political foundation." (AFP, April 14, 2007)

"After the fall of the Taliban regime in 2001, with great disappointment and surprise, Afghan people witnessed how the US government with the help of the UN handed over power to the "Northern Alliance", which is an even much more criminal band than the Taliban. Following this treason and cruelty to the people of Afghanistan, parliamentary elections were observed under the UN supervision, and predictably, due to the established power of the Northern Alliance mafia, the outcome was a disgusting parliament full of criminal warlords and those responsible for the plundering of Afghanistan and reducing it to the current terrible state." "The Parliament of Afghanistan recently passed the infamous bill of "National Conciliation" whose main theme is forgiving and providing immunity to all traitors and criminals. This act, for the thousandth time proved the Parliament?s anti-nation and treacherous nature and showed that this league of traitors and murderers, under the name of democracy, are practically in service of the fundamentalist warlords, who are the filthy enemies of Afghanistan and our unfortunate people."

"The governing criminals, Mr. Karzai, his partners, and foreign masters should know that by insulting our people and their martyred loved ones so shamelessly, there will come a day that our sorrowful people will take their destiny into their own hands, and will tear apart such unchaste laws and prosecute and punish those responsible for the past and present crimes against our nation." "Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission expresses its deep regrets and concerns in regard to the painful incidents and casualties of innocent civilian occurred on Saturday in the province of Nangarhar and on Monday in the province of Kapisa as a result of shooting and bombardment of Coalition Forces combating Terrorism. Asking for follow-up and investigation of the incidents in Jalalabad and Kapisa, the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission seriously calls on international and coalition forces in Afghanistan to pay serious attention to the protection and respect of human rights, life and properties of innocent civilians during military and security operation. Every military operation should guarantee the protection of lives of innocent civilians. Because infliction of casualties on civilians is contradictory to the principals International Humanitarian Laws, human rights principles and norms, the perpetrators should be prosecuted and brought to justice." "AIHRC expresses serious concern on the re-occurrence of civilian casualties, especially of children and women during Coalition military operations against terrorist positions in Kandahar Province. As a result of joint military operation by the Government and Coalition forces in Panjwayi District, Kandahar Province on 21 and 22 May, sixteen civilians including children, women, and the elderly have lost their lives in Azizi Village of the District. In addition, some have been injured and a number of families have abandoned their residential areas and thus have become displaced."
